Anyone seen the Cancer Research advert that has been causing a stir recently.
You know the one below.
Now a Danish comedian, has accused them of doing something pretty nasty.
As you can see it See, it is in a Hangman Style game with the question, the only missing is the stick figure hanging there.
“Guess what’s the biggest preventable cause of cancer
The answer is Obesity we know this but why? I hear you ask
Because Science bitch.
Science tell us this is true
Now, unlike smoking, the evidence isn’t there to prove that is a down right reason behind it and if you are obese that’s it, cancer done, but you know what we can be pretty sure the two things are linked.
If you’re carrying around a fair amount of extra timber, you can put money on the fact that inner organs are going to be under a shit load of stress and therefore there is a very good chance they are not going to be working at their best.
So, if you were to have to fight anything off there is a very good chance it may not be able to.
Do I think it’s a good idea making people aware of it, yes of course. Anything that can help reduce your risk of contracting it is good.
Making yourself aware of the causes is all good.
All it takes is something to spark it off and you could be the healthiest person oin the world but there is still a risk and a chance but wouldn’t you want to reduce that chance.
Cancer is a right fucker, it destroys millions of lives every year and I don’t know one person that hasn’t been affected by it some way or another.
Obesity is preventable so why don’t they tell people? Reduce your obesity levels and reduce your chances of getting it.
Stop smoking reduced your chances of certain cancers as well but that was fine to say.
So why is it a big kick off about this.
It offends people, apparently.
According to the Danish Comedian Sofie Hagen anyway.
Once she saw the ad she took to twitter to launch a huge amount of abuse at CRUK because they were fat shaming.
Wake up Missy, saying that Obesity is a leading cause of cancer is not fat shaming, it is unfortunately fact.
Now, do I think she might be using Twitter to raise her own profile, I couldn’t say, I mean who would be so Cynical.
I feel we’ve got to a point where people are being offended by the smallest of things and because of social media it gives people the option to shout back, no one has a quiet discussion on social media when it comes to this sort of shit.
Guess what though, it is ok to be offended by stuff, opinions are like arseholes we all have one and if yours is different from someones elses that is ok, have a discussion about it but stop it just fucking stop with the bullshit complaining.
There is plenty going on in this world with regards to stuff that needs to be addressed, the problem being if every time you don’t agree with something you see or see it as a time to push your own agenda out there then the more important stuff gets washed down and doesn’t get taken as seriously.
However, I am going of on a tangent here. I need to get back to talking Calories and lifting heavy shit.
Fat shaming isn’t okay.
I hate seeing videos etc of people in the gym whi are just trying to better themselves put up by morons who think they don’t deserve to be there, well guess what cockwomble how do you think they get better?
It winds me up when I get a client telling me that a friend or family member had made fun of them.
It properly pisses me off when I hear anything that demeans someone who’s making an effort with their health and their body, no matter what size they are.
People have freedom of choice to look however they want.
Thankfully for the time being we live in a world that allows that.
Before we start shaming anyone we can’t tell why people are having weight struggles or whether they are trying to make that change.
I’ve spent loads of time trying to change people over the years that deep down didn’t want to change, but because society says they need to be a certain way they felt they needed to.
At the end of the day, if they’re happy?
Who gives a shit.
Is the Ad fat shaming?
I really don’t think so.
It’s sending a powerful message and stating a cold hard fact.
Is this going to be the magic pill to ‘cure’ obesity?
I can’t see that ever going away, well especially not in my lifetime and unfortunately as much work as I do and fellow fitpros (god I hate that term) do I can only see it getting worse.
If you take one thing away from this ad and other things like it.
When you’re trying to lose weight, or trying to change, there is a chance there will be tings that offend you.
A family member or a friend will remark how you look way too skinny now, or ask if you’ve become ill, just because you’ve dropped a few pounds.
Friends will rib you for ordering a salad when out for a meal.
People will try and derail your progress all the time, with their negativity.
Do you know what fuck em, do it for you not anyone else and others will come along for the ride, some will just be jealous because you have made a change to your life for the better.
It’s going to happen, just like companies are going to put out adverts that potentially offend people, because it makes them money because people will be talking about it.
So you can either spend your life fighting it on social media and go around beating yourself up over shit like it or shrug it off and go you know what, there are bigger fish to fry.
I know which one I would rather do.
